What can I do to help?
Welcome to OYAA Recreational Softball!

The focus of the recreational leagues is on teaching and developing fundamental softball skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Games are generally played during the week with games possible on Saturdays. Practices begin in early May and the season ends in mid-July..

Please note that more advanced players may register for the next level up

LITTLE JUNIORS LEAGUE - T-BALL/COACH PITCH FOR AGES 4-6 FEE: $85
This league is designed for young, first-time players. Emphasis is on basic instruction (individual and team). The format this year uses an 11" rubberized ball and combines tee ball with coach pitch, which is introduced after the second full week of tee ball play. At that time, a coach pitches 3 pitches from short range. If the ball is not hit, a tee is used. Teams are scheduled for 12 games played at Wyandot Run, Walnut Creek, Indian Springs, and Arrowhead Elementary Schools. Some games will be played on Saturday mornings.

JUNIORS LEAGUE - KID/COACH PITCH AGES 8 AND UNDER FEE: $100
This league continues to develop fundamental skills necessary for successful game play. Played with an 11-inch rubberized ball. This format introduces pitching and catching at an earlier age with pitcher's rubber set at 30'. Kid pitch is introduced after the second full week of coach pitch play. At that time, a player will throw 3 pitches, followed by 4 more from the coach, if needed. Teams are scheduled 12 games played at Wyandot Run, Walnut Creek, Indian Springs, and Arrowhead Elementary Schools.

PONYTAIL LEAGUE - KID/COACH PITCH AGES 10 AND UNDER FEE: $100
In addition to development of fundamental skills, other concepts such as leading off, stealing, and game strategy are introduced. The pitcher/catcher relationship develops as players pitch the first 4 pitches with an 11" Soft-Dot ball from 35 feet, with the coach pitching an additional 3, if necessary. Teams are scheduled 12 games at Wyandot Run, Walnut Creek, Indian Springs, and Arrowhead Elementary Schools.

MAJOR LEAGUE - YOUTH PITCH FOR AGES 12 AND UNDER FEE: $100
This league builds on softball fundamentals as they apply to game strategy. More intense competition is introduced with the addition of an umpire and modified ASA rules. A 12-inch regulation softball is used, and the pitching rubber is set at 40 feet. 12 games will be scheduled and played at Liberty Middle School, Hyatts Middle School, and Olentangy and Olentangy Liberty High Schools. There will be a season-ending tournament scheduled on the weekend after the last games.

ALL AMERICAN LEAGUE - YOUTH PITCH FOR AGES 15 AND UNDER FEE: $100
This league is open to any player 15 years of age or younger as of January 1 of this year. Although recreational in nature, this league is played with an umpire under ASA rules and involves a higher level of competition. A 12 inch regulation ball is used with the pitching rubber set at 40 feet. 12 games will be scheduled and played at Liberty Middle School, Hyatts Middle School, and Olentangy and Olentangy Liberty High Schools. There will be a season-ending tournament scheduled on the weekend after the last games.

Please Note: All players between the ages of 6 and 14 interested in playing Select softball (Olentangy Lightning) must register for a recreational team and sign up for an appropriate Select team. Each player must attend assessments on March 1 and recreational league fees must be paid to be considered for the Select Program. If a player is chosen for Select, an additional fee of $125 will be due within 7 days of notification. If a player is not selected, or the additional fee is not paid, the player will be assigned to a recreational team in the division for which she registered.
