Welcome to OYAA Jr. Drill Team!
Our Mission : Our mission is to build self-esteem. There are no tryouts
and all girls perform regardless of ability or disability. Participation will
help improve a child’s confidence, coordination, and social skills. Participants
will have fun learning a hello cheer and pom pom dances to great music.
Eligibility: All girls grades Kindergarten-8th grade are welcome.
Coaches: The teams are coached by volunteers who encourage and provide
positive reinforcement to each participant.
Seasons: We offer 2 seasons.
Fall season runs from September – December. Fall season usually consists of
several practices, performances at a game, a mall, a retirement home, community
events and “Showcase” at which all girls receive a trophy and an End of Season
Party.
Spring season runs from March – June. Spring season usually consists of several
practices, marching in the Memorial Day parade, performances at a retirement
home, community events and “Showcase” at which all girls receive a trophy and an
End of Season Party.
Uniforms: The required uniform is a sweatshirt or t-shirt depending on
the season, pleated skirt, spankies, sweatpants (optional in the fall),
tri-color pom poms, ankle socks and barrette. The shirt and socks are included
in the registration fee of $75. The remaining items can be purchased for a fee
of $51. ($64 if purchasing sweatpants also.) Typically returning members may
purchase only the items they need. All girls will also need plain white tennis
shoes.
Registration: On line registration for Fall 2009 will take place August
10 thru September 5th. After that registration for the fall season will be
closed.
Pictures: Once during each season we have a professional photographer come to
practice where pictures of each team and individual participant may be
purchased.
Practice: The first practice for Fall 2009 will be Tuesday, September
22nd. 6:30 - 7:15 PM.
Practice Location: Practices will be held at Olentangy Hyatts Middle
School at 6885 Sawmill Parkway in Powell. The school is located just north of
the intersection of Sawmill Pkwy. and Home Rd.
Scheduling: A schedule will be available ON LINE. Although we practice
primarily on Tuesday evenings, most of our performances fall on a Saturday or
Sunday.
Age Groups:Teams are assembled based on grade level. Once registration
is complete and we have formed teams, all girls will learn a few group routines
to perform together. At a typical practice the girls will start off in their
individual teams. The girls will learn their hello cheer and dance routine for
performances and the “Showcase”. The first 15 minutes of practice will be
dedicated to learning the group routines.
Olentangy Jr. Drill Team is a non-competitive sport. All girls are welcome and
are never expected to perform without the aid of a coach in front of them. Our
goal is to have all girls receive nothing less than a good, healthy and positive
environment when attending Drill Team practices and performances. A majority of
our coaches are moms and treat each child as their own. If you would like to
volunteer to coach please indicate that in the online registration.
Prior to the start of each season we will distribute flyers containing all of
the information families will want to know for that season’s registration. The
flyers will be distributed to all of the Elementary Schools in our district.
(Flyers should come home to you in your child’s backpack.) Middle School
Students will make up our "Senior Squad" In addition to learning a routine, they
will have several opportunities to work with the younger girls and assist in
other Drill Team Events. Middle School Parents are asked to email me personally
if you need further information. Cathi Beckwith cbeck2511@sbcglobal.net
