OYAA Football - Tackle & Flag programs OYAA Football is open to all 1st - 6th graders who live within the boundaries of the Olentangy School District. Children who live outside the school district and wish to play OYAA football need to e-mail the OYAA Football Commissioner to receive information on how to sign up. The program starts the first week in August for practice, games start the weekend after Labor Day and it will end the first weekend in November. Beginning the end of May thru June and wrapping up with the Olentangy High School Football Camp there will be sign ups and evaluations of skills, height and weight of each player by coaches and volunteers appointed by the commissioner. Each applicant will be graded. This process makes the selection of teams fair and consistent. For the 2002 season, 1st and 2nd graders will play Flag Football for a Fee of $65.00. They will receive shorts, team jersey, socks and a mouth guard. A change this year will be 11 players on the field at a time and we will be teaching the formations and the fundamentals that they will prepare them for the tackle program. For the 2002 season, 3rd thru 6th graders will play Tackle Football for a Fee of $125.00. They will receive helmets, shoulder pads, team jersey, socks, mouth guard and helmet logos. A change this year will be each grade level will have there own League. The 3rd grade level will have a ball carrying weight limit of 75lbs. , The 4th Grade level will have a ball carrying weight limit of 95lbs. , The 5th Grade level will have a ball carrying weight limit of 125lbs. , The 6th Grade level will have an unlimited ball carrying weight limit. We are very excited about these changes, but in order to be able to do this we need a minimum of 72 kids per grade level to sign up.
