Rec. Lacrosse Information
OYAA Lacrosse is open to boys and girls who live within the Olentangy Local School District. In 2004, we added a second division that included 3rd and 4th graders. In 2005, we plan to add a third division designed for 1st and 2nd graders. Combined with our 5th and 6th grade division, OYAA Lacrosse will have three separate age divisions for boys and for girls.
Sign up flyers announcing the January 2005 registration dates will go home with the elementary school children the last week before the holiday break. E-mails announcing the registration will be sent to last spring's players as well. Registration will be held at Olentangy High School Commons Area on January 12th (7:00-8:30 PM) and 15th (9:30-11:00 AM). All players should attend one of the dates in order to register, pay their fee, and be fitted for equipment (3rd-6th grade only).
Indoor clinics put on by each high school program in February and March. Teams will be grouped by elementary school and middle school (6th graders), when possible. The outdoor season will start in early April, right after spring break and end in mid May. Practices and games are held three times per week, usually twice during the week and once on the weekend. One week there may be two games and one practice and the next week, one game and two practices. Currently, a nine game season is planned for the 3rd through 6th grade boys. Limited travel will occur for the 3rd thru 6th grade divisions. Area teams that we played last year were from Hilliard, Dublin, Westerville, New Albany, Gahanna, and Pickerington. Games with other OYAA Lacrosse teams will also be scheduled. The 1st and 2nd grade program is an instructional program where skills will be taught and it will be non contact. 1st and 2nd graders will only play other OYAA teams, depending upon the number of players that sign up. Locations for practices and games include: Olentangy HS, Shanahan MS, Liberty HS, and Liberty MS. Orange MS may be another alternative.
The cost to play depends on your child's grade. 3rd thru 6th grade boys will pay $110 which includes the use of a stick and protective equipment. 3rd thru 6th grade girls will pay $75 that includes the use of a stick and protective goggles. 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls pay $75 and get to keep their stick! We encourage everyone to purchase their own sticks in order to continue practicing, long after the season is over. Discounts will be given to those players that have their own sticks or equipment.
Because our program is growing so rapidly, volunteers are needed for many different responsibilities including…registration, equipment distribution & collection, scheduling refs, scheduling field usage for games and practices, roster spreadsheet preparation, e-mail distribution, OYAA Lacrosse communications, and last, but not least…coaches and assistant coaches. Please e-mail Phil Stegmann, if you'd like to help with any of these duties. No lacrosse experience is necessary for any of these duties, including coaching. A coach's clinic will be taught and lacrosse drills and practice plans will be shared. Please volunteer! You'll learn a new sport, keep the program growing, and have fun at the same time.
