There are no rules that dictate the number of games, practices and tournaments a team plays. Generally select teams practice an average of twice per week beginning about one month before the regular season begins, play two games each week and participate in tournaments in the fall and spring. Players are expected to attend all team functions, subject to a few exceptions. Each coach shall communicate team policy to the respective families of his/her team. Currently OYAA has 18 Select Soccer teams that range from 12 players (U9/U10) to as many as 18 for older groups. The U# designation defines the age group. A U10 team for example, consists of players all less than 10 years of age as of August 1st. OYAA offers separate boys' and girls' teams for most age groups U9 through U14. The Director of Soccer may consider requests for new teams in other age designations. The U9 and above teams are in the Mid Ohio Select Soccer Association (MOSSL). U9 and U10 play with 8 players on the field while the older teams play with 11. Tryouts Tryouts are generally run, by age group, over the course of two weekday evenings during a period specified by MOSSL. Candidates are strongly encouraged to attend both sessions. Third-party professional evaluators are employed to rank the candidates to assure objectivity. Typically, four days elapse before results are known and calls are made. While every candidate is not selected, OYAA congratulates all that try out! Tryout dates have been set. These dates include boys and girls in the same age grouping. Game Schedules and Times Fall season play typically begins the first Monday after Labor Day and runs through to some point in October. Spring season play normally begins the first Monday in April. These dates and times are subject to change as scheduling efforts demand. Costs Playing OYAA Select Soccer requires a moderately expensive commitment in both expenses and time on both the player and the parents. The annual player fees are $900 per year for U9 through U14. U15 will pay $350 for Spring only. Costs of uniforms, extra tournaments and team equipment will be additional. Team budgets are set by the Director of Coaching and the Commmissioner. Coaches As part of the Mid Ohio Select Soccer League (MOSSL), coaches and parent assistants are required to achieve a minimum level of licensing. The licensing requirements for select soccer starts with an F license (for U10) and progresses to an E and D licensing requirement depending on the age and level of play of the team.
