Football Update

Dear Parents,

We have been working hard to develop a plan for our tackle football assessments while adhering to the ReStartOhio guidelines.  We have finalized our plan but will need to push back our assessment dates by 1 week.  Our new assessment dates will be as follows:

  • July 19th – 6pm – 8:20pm
  • July 26th – 6pm – 8:20pm

Please note that while we have finalized our plan for these assessments, the Governor has not approved contact sports to begin playing games and therefore this plan is subject to change.

Also, if we’re able to proceed with the assessments, OYAA will modify your registration from waitlist to registered and you will be required to pay in full PRIOR to your assessment.  You will not be able to participate in your assessment if you have not paid your registration fees.

Assessment Sign Ups  – In order to follow the ReStartOhio guidelines, each assessment has been broken down into 20 minute time slots.  You need to sign up (sign up here) for your specific time slot.

  • Important Note – When you sign up you will see two types of slots available:
    • Striper Slot – You should sign up for this slot if your child is:
      • 3rd / 4th grade – Over 100lbs
      • 5th / 6th grade – Over 125lbs
    • Non-Striper Slot
      • 3rd / 4th grade – Under 100lbs
      • 5th / 6th grade – Under 125lbs
  • Please weigh your child and make sure you sign up for the appropriate slot.

Assessment Details

  • Each child should wear football cleats and bring their own water bottle.  They will be able to carry their water from station to station during the assessment.
  • Location:  Shanahan Middle School – behind the middle school and in between the baseball fields.
  • Parking:  Park in the parking lots behind the school next to one of the baseball fields (there are two parking lots, one next to each baseball field)
  • Registration: 
    • Arrive 5 – 10 minutes prior to the start time of your assessment
    • Each kid will be put into groups (A – D) of 3 at the time of arrival and will receive their personal football that they should take with them throughout the assessment.
    • Kids will be directed to and should wait in their assigned group queuing area that will be marked.
    • When it’s time for their assessment to begin a staff member will direct them to their stations. 
  • Stations:
    • There will be a total of 8 stations (3 offense / 3 defense / 2 speed)
    • The coaches will take each group of 3 kids through the Assessment
    • Each group will take 20 minutes to complete their assessment
  • Equipment Distribution:
    • Upon completing their assessment, each kid should then queue up at the equipment shed to receive their helmet and shoulder pads
    • Once you’ve received your equipment you can leave the assessment.

ReStartOhio Reminders:

  • If any kid or coach experience any symptoms, they should not come to the assessment.  They should email the commissioner ([email protected]) and inform him that they will not be in attendance.
  • Parents can stay and watch the assessments, but six-feet social distancing should be maintained between individuals and you should not congregate before or after the assessment.
  • All Coaches will use hand sanitizer in between each group of kids.
  • All equipment (footballs, dummies, and bags) will be sanitized before each assessment.  Footballs will be sanitized in between each user (before being provided to each kid)
  • Kids should maintain six-feet social distance between each other when possible when at a station or in a drill.  Social distance markings will be painted on the grass at queuing area, drills, and equipment distribution.  Please make sure you follow the markings.
  • Physical contact is only permitted within the rules of the game and players and coaches should not be physically contacting each other before, during, and after the assessment (i.e. hand shakes, high fives, congregating, etc)

After assessments there will be a player draft.  After the draft you will be notified of the team your child is on no later than July 31st.
