OYAA Soccer - Fall Update 2 of 2

Hello everyone.
I hope today's messages are helpful to understanding how we will safely return to the soccer field this Fall season.
This is the OYAA Soccer - Fall 2020 Update 2 of 2.   If you missed update 1 of 2, you can view it HERE.

Message 1 of 2 (morning):  Player & Coach Registration Status, Team Rosters and Making Payments
Message 2 of 2 (evening):  Timeline of events necessary to start the season

Note:  Emails -- my email inbox is overflowing...200+ emails in my inbox since Saturday 8/22.  My reply time is taking much longer than expected.  I hope today's messages help answer some general questions.
Message 2 of 2:  Timeline of events necessary to start the season.
Special Note:  More than ever, the saying "We are in this together" applies to the Fall 2020 soccer season.   As you review the timeline below, please keep in mind that 100% compliance with all local, state and federal safety and health guidelines will be required by players, coaches and spectators.  The same compliance expectations will apply to the OYAA soccer practice and game-day guidelines and protocols.  All guidelines and protocols will be shared in advance of practices and games starting.  They will be sensible, practical and easy to follow.  I share this because I want everyone to know we are in this together.  Every player, coach and spectator has a role in creating a safe and fun soccer experience.
Fall 2020 Timeline (subject to change and modification as needed)
Wednesday, August 26th
*  8:46 AM deadline to withdraw from the Fall 2020 OYAA Soccer season.
*  Activation of players and coaches on the waitlist begins.  This will take a few days.  Remember the Activation emails have a deadline.

WITHDRAWAL NOTE:  If you would like to proactively withdraw your child or coach from the Fall 2020 Season, please send an email no later than Wednesday, August 26th at 8:46 AM to the individuals below.

Mike Lentz ([email protected]):  Divisions = PreK, Girls Kindergarten through 6th grade; MSSA Boys, MSSA Girls, HSSA Coed

Michelle Davies ([email protected]):  Divisions Boys Kindergarten through 6th grade
Friday, August 28th
* Coach Workshop Schedule Released:   All coaches will be required to attend a virtual coaching workshop using the Zoom platform.  There will be 4 date/time options offered.  The schedule and agenda will be included in the Friday 8/28 email.  The coaching workshops will cover
     -- practice and game-day protocols
     -- practice start date
     -- practice location options
     -- covid-19 type coaching activities for practices
     -- uniform distribution dates/procedures
     -- answer/question opportunities
* Referee Training Schedule Released:  Individuals interested in being a referee during the Fall 2020 season should complete the OYAA Referee Interest Survey HERE.   Referees will participate in
1) a virtual classroom session to learn/study the Laws of the game and COVID-19 safety requirements, and
2) attend an in-person field session at Liberty Park.  During the in-person field session referees will see the field set-up for all game formats, engage in game scenario Q&A, and learn how OYAA is applying the social distancing guidelines for players, coaches and spectators.
Tuesday, September 1st
*  Release Team Rosters (time tbd).  This is an aggressive timeline and is subject to change.  This depends largely on having enough coaches and players to complete the team formation process.  Coaches must also complete all the coaching requirements (click HERE to view).  Releasing rosters on 9/1 would give coaches approximately 2 weeks before games begin.
September 14th - week of....
* Opening Game Days will be rolled out the week of September 14th
* The goal is to play 8 games.  7 weekends and 1 midweek game.
* Some teams will play midweek games Monday 9/14 through Thursday 9/17
* The first Saturday of games will be September 19th.
* Game Schedule release - see below
Season Game Dates (Saturdays)
*  September: 19, 26
*  October:  3, 10, 17, 24 and 31
*  Weekday games have not been determined yet by grade level
Related topics still being finalized.
* Uniform Distribution Date:  TBD.  Uniforms ordered around the time team rosters are finalized.  Once the team rosters are finalized, the uniform production timeline may impact the start of games (maybe...I have a possible work around if there is a delay).  Details will be shared with the team coaches during the workshops.

* Picture Day:
I am still deciding if we will hold a picture day.  I know many high school sports programs safely executed this event.  For rec soccer, it is a pretty busy and "crowded event" at the fields.  We are reviewing options like only offering individual player pictures, offering 4-5 picture day options instead of the traditional 2 dates.  More to come on this.

* Game Schedules Release:
TBD.   Game Schedules will be completed once team rosters are finished/released.  To ensure compliance with social distancing and safe transition flow between games, the game slots have been extended to 1 hour, 45 minutes (previously, it was 1 hour, 30 minutes).  Note- soccer games are about 1 hour long in length.  The extra 45 minutes helps with the overall flow of teams, spectators and traffic in/out of the park.

* Game Rescheduling Process:
  Because we will start 2.5 weeks later than normal, we will lose our rain date option.  Additionally, to create more time between games, I lose an entire game slot each Saturday.  Rescheduling large blocks of games will be more challenging.  Fingers crossed for a good weather season!

Thank you for taking time to read this message.  I appreciate your understanding, cooperation and patience as we prepare to play soccer this Fall.

Yours in Soccer,

Mike Lentz
