Risk Screening Steps
After you register to coach, the risk screening must be completed. Coaches' risk screening requirements are listed below. Detailed information is found on the lower half of the page.

CONCUSSION SAFETY
Certificates are valid for three years and must not expire during the season you are coaching. Complete ONE of the following free, online courses:
- The National Federation of State High School Associations’ training program “Concussion in Sports”
- National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention program “Heads Up to Youth Sports: Online Training”
Download your full-size (not wallet sized) completion certificate to your drive. Attach the file to an EMAIL to tjones@oyaa.org. Screen prints, hyperlinks, or photographs of the certificate WILL NOT be accepted.
BACKGROUND CHECK
The background check is initiated and paid by OYAA. Coaches will receive an invitation to authorize the background check via email from Sterling Volunteers/First Advantage. It may come from any of these email domains: @fadv.co, @fadv.com, or @sterlingcheck.com. Please note that background checks completed by another vendor will not be accepted. Results will be provided directly to OYAA and will remain confidential.

Lindsay's Law Information
A Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. Lindsay's Law went into effect to inform and educate coaches, youth athletes, and their parents about SCA. The following resources were developed to implement Lindsay’s Law:

Concussion Information
Ohio's Return-to-Play Law sets requirements for youth athletic organizations and schools in treating young athletes showing concussion symptoms, removing them from activity, and when they can return to play. All coaches and referees are required to take an online certification course on concussions in sports. Parents and guardians are to be provided an information sheet created by the Ohio Department of Health (posted below). For our athletes, a child showing concussion symptoms must be removed from a practice or game and must be cleared by a medical professional before returning to play.
As required by the State of Ohio, the following information regarding concussions is provided for parents and guardians of participants in OYAA programs:

Background Check Information
The OYAA is committed to providing a positive and rewarding athletic experience for our children. As part of this commitment to the Olentangy community, OYAA requires criminal background checks for those who come in contact with our athletes: commissioners, coaches and other volunteers.
Costs associated with the screening will be paid by OYAA. Potential coaches will be emailed a link to initiate the background screening; this screening must be completed before the individual is approved to take part in our programs. Please note that background checks previously completed for another organization will not be accepted for this purpose. Results will be provided to OYAA and will remain confidential.
OYAA has no access to your social security number. The below convictions may disqualify an individual from volunteering with OYAA. OYAA reserves the right to allow or refuse any individual the ability to coach a team in any sports program for any reason, regardless of this policy and the below disqualifiers.
Any sort of abuse or assault/battery — physical or sexual
Rape
Any crime of a sexual nature, including possession or dissemination of pornography
Homicide or manslaughter in any degree
Attempted murder
Domestic violence
Child neglect
Felony drug crimes
Animal cruelty
Theft/robbery
Forgery/fraud
Kidnapping
Arson
Weapons violations
Any crime, misdemeanor or felony, involving children as either an accomplice or victim
Has been convicted during the past 5 years of any of the following offenses:
• Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)
• Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
• Misdemeanor violations of the Controlled Substance Act
Has been twice convicted for misdemeanor offenses of 4th degree or higher in the past five years.
