| | Rec Baseball: Is your son eager to hit the diamond this baseball season? OYAA Baseball is teaming up with the coaches at Mannino's Grand Slam and from the OYAA Travel Baseball program to offer a Spring Training clinic. Fields at SuperKick will be used for fielding, throwing, pitching and baserunning while hitting sessions will be held at Mannino's Grand Slam's batting cages and training facility. Instructors will include former OSU assistants Greg Cypret and Brian Mannino, former Liberty HS coach Matt Lattig, MGS staff coaches and OYAA Travel Baseball coaches.
The Spring Training clinic is offered for players in grades 1-6, from first-year rookies to seasoned "veterans". Dates are Wednesdays, March 28 & April 18 and Saturdays, March 31 and April 21. Cost for the clinic which includes all six sessions is $75 per player. Two additional hitting sessions at MGS can be added for $24. | | Softball: The Olentangy Lightning Select Softball Program (8U, 10U, 12U, & 14U) will be holding tryouts for its 2012 teams on Saturday, March 10th at the Olentangy (Lewis Center) High School.
8U & 10U tryouts will begin at 1:00 pm in the Main Gymnasium. 12U & 14U tryouts will begin at 3:30 pm in the Main Gymnasium. Participants are expected to arrive 1/2 hour early to get registered and warm up.
What is Lightning Select Softball? The Lightning Select Teams play 2 nights per week from early June to late July (doubleheaders on M/W or T/TH) in the I270 Softball League (8U plays a slightly reduced schedule). For non-middle school and non-high school players, practices start in April, for those playing middle school or high school practices begin after the conclusion of their seasons. On average teams will play between 20-30 games during the 2012 season. Travel is limited to communities within central Ohio. Lightning Select Softball is great for players who want more skill development opportunities and more competition than what the recreational leagues might offer. Age group eligibility is determined by the age of the participant as of 12/31/11. Players are strongly encouraged to tryout within their proper age group.
